Do you care?

Every time I drive through my neighborhood, I see presidential candidate signs. Big, small, sometimes just a single lawn sign, and sometimes a sea of red and blue. And every time I see one reading, Trump 2020, I think, Do you know? Or do you just not care?

Do you, sign owner, know how our president is brushing off the deaths of 200,000 Americans killed by coronavirus as if it was merely collateral damage?

Do you know about all the policies implemented by the Trump administration that are worsening our climate situation?

Do you know about the president attempting to strip trans people of their rights and deny LGBTQ+ people fair access to health care?

Or do you not care about the lives of your fellow Americans?

I am a queer person who is facing having my rights taken away from me under the Trump administration. I am just a statistic, another life that government officials don’t care about. Even though all the sign says is, Trump 2020, it’s getting harder and harder not to see it as a shiny red and blue way of saying, We don’t care about you.

you stared through milky glazed eyes
i could see millions of stars, a cosmos reflected behind your irises
    what's up there?
    how many?

    pulled the cord.

    did you see that too?
