Today my friend Anabel and I resurrected some shrimp.
During the lab we were observing these shrimp when our teacher forced us to put them in fresh water.
We did not want to do it.
But he said it was, “In the name of science.”
Our petri dish contained several miniscule shrimp.
They were just minding their business swimming around playfully.
We put them in fresh water.
They started to swim a little slower.
Until only their legs were moving.
Eventually they curled up and stopped moving altogether.
All of a sudden we got a great idea!
We would take the shrimp out of the fresh water and place them back in salt water.
We waited expectantly.
I was looking through the microscope when I began to detect some movement in their legs.
We became ecstatic!
They began swimming and we gave a sigh of relief.
We had saved these shrimp from their untimely death.
For the rest of the class we watched our little miracles.
But our time with Bob, Joe, Fred, George, and Calvin was coming to an end.
Since they had been exposed to fresh water they could not be put back with the other brine shrimp.
So Eamon threw them down the sink.
We miss them every day.
