A girl's service

"You know, you're kind of hot."
The boy drapes his unwelcome arm
Around her shoulders
She smiles, and it doesn't meet her cheeks
"Thanks."
The boy laughs, hits her thigh with his hand, waves his buddies over
The girl is so over it and annoyed I can feel the hate radiating off of her
I walk over, bounce in my step
Sharp pencil clutched behind my back, just in case
"Heeyy Jenna!
Dad's looking for you.
Come with me."
The boys frown as she goes, and I whisk her out of sight
"Are you ok? Do you want me to call someone?"
She smiles, a tired smile
"No. It happens a lot.
It'll happen to you too, if you put yourself in places where desicions are being made.
I just blanked for a second, so thanks for grabbing me."
I tell her no worries
It's happened to all of us
It shouldn't be community service to do this
They should be able to read the room
But if you're going to make us defend each other every time you're in the room
At least give me the hours and credits for it

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
