settling on none.
One is too rigid
another too weak.
Many seek to capture the dove,
her purity is enchanting,
her simplicity misleading.
Her elusiveness causes the dreamers to plan
and the planners to dream.
Some try to win her with guns
shooting without care for the hundreds
of animals they kill instead.
But they soon find
that a limp blanched corpse
won by death and fury
will decay from the center outward
leaving behind an awful stench.
Others attempt to ensnare her
carefully laying out wires and cages
till they nearly forget what they seek.
But once imprisoned
the bird becomes lifeless,
her feathers grimy
and song hoarse,
no longer a gift to the beholder.
some try another way,
they feed the bird with wholesome seeds
until she trusts they will not harm her.
