Thoughts and prayers won’t save us now.
But still somehow-
Shots ringing out through the halls.
Remember the protocols.
Lock the door, shut the shades.
Turn the lights off, hope and pray.
Bullets engraving themselves in the hearts of targets.
Kids crying out into the darkness.
Salty tears saturating faces.
My heart racing.
Young minds wasted.
Guns cracking open innocence,
chewing it up,
spitting it out.
This is just ridiculous.
Kids, thinking about what hasn’t been said.
What hasn’t been done.
Lives changed, like a puzzle missing a piece or two.
Kids shortchanged out of life.
Never get to twenty-two.
