Inkpaw

Dew
Sparkling like a million stars
Confined 
And compressed 
Into one tiny orb
On the very edge 
Of a leaf
The golden rays of sun
Refracting 
Into a tiny rainbow
Reflecting 

the sun sets so quickly now
my world has been so suddenly thrown into darkness
the sky no longer a delicate light blue
speckled with an orange or pink cloud here or there
there's barely any light left 
and what is left 

the puddles splashed underfoot
as she ran 
through the dreary afternoon 
her bright yellow boots spatered with mud 
and little bits of dried grass
her pigtails bouncing 
on her light blue open shoulder top

today 
I feel a yearning
a deep desire
to go 
to the ocean
and dive beneath the waves 
letting the cold water wash my tears away 
and cleanse my soul 
of the pointless anger
that still lingers

Dread fills my stomach and fear starts to strangle my insides. As I fall faster and faster, hurdling towards the hard, rock strewn ground.

the sky seems endless
yet the clouds seem so close

as I lay here
stomach up in the snow
drowning in the vastness of this world 

I reach up 
letting the glove slip off my yearning fingers
