The meeting room is filled with noise. People talking and laughing as they greet their friends. This is the first time I have ever been early for a meeting, and it’s not nearly as fulfilling as I anticipated.
After a while of deafening noise, everyone sits down, signaling to me that Mr. Warden is about to waltz into the room, like no one knows he was coming. I take my seat, and am caught off guard by the person sitting across from me. It’s not the little blue-haired girl from the other day, no, this is someone different.
He has blonde hair that curls around his face and the nape of his neck. A strong jaw and high cheekbones grace his features. But the thing that makes my breath catch are his eyes. Piercing blue eyes that grab onto me, and hesitate to let me go. I feel myself flushing, and he hasn’t even uttered a word to me. He must catch my embarrassment because his lips flip up in the ghost of a smile, his eyes laughing at me. He holds my gaze, like he’s trying to memorize what I look like in this moment for a cheap laugh later. I despise it. I despise him, and I haven’t even met him yet.
“Everyone!” Mr. Warden walks into the room, sporting a three-piece suit and his cane in hand. “I’d like to introduce you to our newest hire.”
The man across from me stands and walks to Mr. Warden, a wide smile on his face, dimples on his cheeks showing.
Of course.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Warden.” He looks as though he’s giving some acceptance speech for an award he doesn’t deserve.
“This is Alexander Conway.” He gestures towards him. “We are excited to have him. He’s trained for years for this moment.” Mr. Warden taps him on the shoulder, and he walks to sit down.
He walks around like he owns the place.
He finds my gaze again and holds it, a smirk evident on his face.
Who does he think he is?

Oh, the suspense! What happens next? Keep writing!
It's actually part of a novel I'm currently drafting! I'm having a ton of fun with it!
