Lone Cypress Tree

I've lived in California, my entire life. Coastal road trips are some of my favorite parts of living here. They're amazing, and I love hanging out with my family. During Labor Day Weekend, we decided to drive the 17-Mile Drive. One of the points is the Lone Cypress Tree. I love it every time I come, because it's such a great viewing point. We almost always see cranes and sea otters in the waters below. I love the Lone Cypress Tree, because it's a sign of independence for me. It's stood by itself for so long and looks beautiful against the waters.

Author's Note: This story isn't exactly mine to tell. One day, I came home from school, crying because I got a huge blister (this happened in elementary school) and the blister spread across my entire palm.

  • Take Me Away

Author Bio: I wrote "Take Me Away," when I felt swamped with a growing list of things to do. It made me miss the days, in the pandemic when I’d run around the backyard, screaming “I’m bored!”

  • I'm Here!

Author's Note: This poem was actually inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem, "I'm Nobody! Who Are You?" I was experimenting with rhyming schemes, and then I read Emily Dickinson's poem.
