I started accommodating at 2 years old
First it was just normal stuff
Staying quiet
Being careful
Make sure the baby is happy
I thought it would stop
But I’m still accommodating
Bending
Twisting
Just to keep them happy
Change my plans
And keep my mouth shut
I’ve given up
On the idea of someone putting me first
My needs
Maybe I should throw a tantrum
Cry and scream
Yell and stomp
Put them first

Snap
Break
Crack
Accommodate
Until I break
It really sucks to be a girl
In a man's world
Everything designed
So it is never your time
Everything is rigged so you don’t succeed
Imagine if
Every book came with a key
A key that opened a door
Into the book
Into the worlds
That are your happy place
Escape from reality
Taken to a new level
The joy found in between the pages
I always thought it would be like the movies
Beach trips and ice cream
Field trips and cheering on sports teams
Late nights with fairy lights
My first kiss
That feeling of bliss
