all the same

It goes like this, as it is the truth,

but we snap our mouths shut as people smile and agree,

Good riddance the crowd says, while we don’t speak a word.

Not daring to make a sound, afraid of the ridicule, the vulnerability,

We would never be that dumb, never fall for those lies,

never conform to an opinion just because of others.

We stand in the crowd, not a part of it, feeling out of place,

horrified by the thought of staying, too terrified to leave.

Eventually the chatter stops, the crowd disperses,

It’s over. We let out a sigh of relief.

Then a thought slams into our heads,

What is someone notices we don’t show up,

So we go back, again and again, we feel obligated.

At some point we find our voice and we go to speak,

But someone catches our attention, standing alone in the crowd.

They are nervous, quiet, they seem almost scared to be here,

Good riddance we think as they don’t say a word.

No matter, they will be forgotten, let the truth be heard.
