Auditioning for you

Every day I audition for your love
Attention
Devotion
Get up with a new monologue I wrote while asleep
"Hey"
"Nice weather outside today, huh"
"I like your shirt"
"So, do you like bread?" (Damnit Zoe)
Everyday I audition for your love with a quirky hummed tune
We can walk down the hallway to
All that jazz
Bohemian Rasphody
Mr. Sandman
Jessie's Girl
Every day I pull on tap shoes and leotards and pack water bottles full of hot tea
And sing scales and stretch wildly and plait my hair so tightly my scalp thrums
And every day I throw my heart and soul into the song
The dance
The monologue
And every day I wait eagerly by the landline
Praying for a callback
And every day it rings
And I answer
And you're there

  • 1893

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

  • Papercuts

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
