Barriers

it stretches my face apart 

not unlike the plates 

we learn about in science class. 

pulling at my jaw, 

cheeks, 

lips, 

until finally 

my whole demeanor

the doors

to walk through

and brightly lit

when beside him

there is a girl

stumbling through

a dark hall

unable to find her way
