The Curtain

If I could just see behind that curtain, then I would tell her I noticed

I noticed everything

I noticed that curtain that hides her face

The curtain that she uses to shield herself

That curtain she used to open wide and keep open

It’s not open anymore

She used to watch the sunset and dream

Now that same sun still sets but she doesn’t dream

She doesn’t dream because she thinks she doesn’t deserve to dream

Her mind is going 100 miles an hour

Just trying to figure out why she can’t be like everyone else

She looks in the mirror and sees someone she doesn’t know

Why couldn’t she have been happy

Why, when everyone else is happy, she isn’t

She doesn't know why, so she keeps asking

Until her head falls off a cliff

Thinking about every moment in time when she could've been different

She goes to school and pulls that curtain over her face

And no one bats an eye

Until one day

One simple day

She packs her stuff

And runs

She runs from her demons

She runs from her busy head

She runs from the curtain

That curtain that kept her from living

And she finds life

She finds life where her flaws are perfect

She finds life where she dreams

She finds life where she doesn't ask why

She found what she was looking for

But when she wakes up

The curtain is still there

Still waiting for the perfect time

To suffocate her

And bring her back to the stage

But when that curtain does

She won't be there

Because no one noticed

No one noticed that girl with the curtain

The curtain swallowed her whole

Until there was nothing left to take

  • Things I Love

I love how the air smells on the first day of spring

And how there are sprouts in the ground even before the snow melts

I love the crunch sound a pinecone makes when someone steps on it
