Dear Mother,
I have missed you these past few months.
Where did you go?
I see you standing there, torch held high, yet you do not answer my calls.
Have the chains that were broken tethered you once again?
My grandmother did not come here under your shadow for you to be silenced.
Dear Mother,
Where have they hidden you?
The millions of people you have welcomed through our door are being cast out again.
I am scared.
Dear Mother,
There are flowers blooming in my garden that look just like your torch.
Maybe if I plant them everywhere they will guide you home.
Dear Mother,
I am beginning to worry you are not coming back.
But if you don't, who will give liberty to the people?
Who will give liberty to the planet upon which we live, which has become like a home we do not clean?
Dear Mother,
I've finally figured it out, I think.
You have left to show us it is our turn.
We, The People, must give liberty to ourselves, and to our other mother, the Earth.
Dear Liberty,
I will not let you die.
