“I hate you” Neo choked “mother should too. But she doesn’t” he gasped for air. Unable to breathe “I don’t understand that”
His father looked down “because she knows—“
“That you’re a monster? I’ve known that for years. You left us. You abandoned us. Yet she loves you, more than she loves most others. I don’t get it. You’re scum. You’re invisible. You were never there. She was. Where were you. Where were you.” He cried then stopped and cleaned his face “why do I care” he grumbled then stepped outside and slammed the door he went with his friends, Parker and Hunter, “where’s the next master piece gonna be?” Iker asked her shoes hitting a puddle as she ran over. Ezra ran over next, showing her duffel bag of spray paints.
Neo pointed “there”
they all walked
Iker turned “Neo, was that your dad?”
“Don’t want him to be.” He growled.
She nodded “well, he fell from the sky. Thought I’d let you know”
He gave her a look that screamed ‘are you stupid’
“She’s hallucinating again” hunter said dismissively
Neo’s footing slowed “was she though?” He thought. Iker wasn’t the one to lie. Never. She was the only reliable one in the whole bunch.
Well they continued walking anyways.
They reached the blank wall.
Neo shook his Spray bottle, and spray painted someone who had been in every story book his mother read as a child. He had many names, but the same face every book. then sprayed red X’s over his eyes.
Ezra blinked “is that your dad?”
Neo studied the painting. “Huh.” He said thinking for a moment “it looks like him, but it can’t be. This guy was there all my life, in stories”
Parker grinned “wow. Deep my guy. Look I made a flower!” He said
Iker pointed at the black lines on the green stem “what are those?” She asked
Parker grinned “THORNS” he said sinisterly
Hunter, Ezra, Iker, and Neo burst out laughing while Parker showed off his poorly made flower with thorns.
Neo’s laugh didn’t quite reach his eyes, as much as he’d hate to admit. He wanted to be home with his father.
He rarely sees him already. What if he already left? What if he left on a sour note?
Neo’s stomach twisted. “I left something at home. “ Neo lied “I’ll be back” he said
They all gave thumbs up and he ran home and opened the door, his father was right there, talking to his mother.
Thump
His father looked down shocked as Neo hugged him eyes squeezed shut.
Tears beaded his lashes his father beamed though tears welled up in his eyes too.
“I’m sorry” Neo cried desperately “I don’t want you to leave!”
His dad looked down at his hair “is that paint?”
Neo froze “uh, I was painting in my room earlier” he lied
His mother’s face lit up “he makes the most excellent paintings! Neo dear could you grab your sketchbook and some of your paintings?” She asked
Neo hesitated and it would look bad if he said know. What they didn’t know was the sketchbook was with his friends. He writes down ideas for his graffiti there, colors it with gel pens.
“M-mom I only know where my paintings are” he lied “no idea where my sketchbook is” he lied again
“That’s okay!”
Neo walked to his room and pulled out his paintings of birds, words, and other creative made-up things.
His father looked impressed, and Neo was pleased of that.
His father had to leave, and Neo headed back to the others and they all looked baffled “what?” He asked worried that they were looking that way because he had lied to them.
Iker’s phone was recording. Neo hit stopped and opened it.
The video was of his father leaving, not in a car. But he walked up to the sky? Like an escalator.
His jaw went slack “what…the heck”
Iker grinned “I told you! I knew he fell from the sky! I wasn’t lying!” She laughed loudly in Hunters face pointing at his absurd reaction.
