I remember the doves over the water;
As I released my heavy heart, I was just as light.
I remember the rays of the morning sun;
The clouds that morning held them from me.
I remember their tired eyes above smiles;
Mine soaked over their half-mooned graves.
I remember the burst of July fireworks;
They rained and fizzled out above my head.
I remember the way that it felt to care;
It broke my spirit until it felt right to let go.
I remember you as I have since birth,
a reflection in the mirror I once loathed,
but as the water washed my life down,
there was a knock I had never once heard.
I remember what I felt when I was loved;
The feeling resides as the storm clears.
I remember the lights on their faces.
Their eyes shimmered above open drapes.
I remember them as I had in death,
a reflection on the water I once admired,
but as the light washed over my body,
there was a voice I had heard before.
I remember the doves over the water;
As I flew with the angels, I was just as light.

Eleven Years
For eleven years, I've been a part of the YWP community. I started when I was 11 years old and I went by my old name back then. I used to publish my work here all the time, but much of my publishing has now moved to my university.

A Nine-Year Journey
For nine years, I've been a part of YWP and for nine years, I've felt seen by this community. Even as I've grown up, I've watched new young writers come and share their thoughts, emotions, and stories. -
Beaming writer
In sixth grade, our class had a show-and-tell every week,
and every week, a small handful of students were selected to participate in the next one.
As I was selected, anxiety kicked in.
I wasn't really proud of anything.
