The dreamer

I'm a dreamer
I run
to feel the wind blow on my face
and billow around my body
and to feel my heart
beating strong and steady
inside it's cage of ribs
I cry
because I'm strong
strong enough to feel
and embrace my pain with open arms
i sing
letting the sound blanket me
in what feels like freedom
because I have a voice
and I'm not afraid to use it
I open up my heart
because I can
I allow people to go
and come
my family
is not defined by blood
I dance because I love the feeling
my body swaying
to the music
I laugh
cause it always sounds a little different
and because it means I'm happy
I dream
because I'm a dreamer
I think up wild ideas
that rarely end up on paper
and I fill my life
with the best kind of fire
Oh yes
i'm a dreamer
With ink-stained fingertips
and a special dorky smile
i love to learn
and try to make everything worth my while
I'm a laugher
a lover
a liver
but most of all
I am a dreamer.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
