Extemporize

Extemporize:
To improvise or make up on the spot.

I often find that I am an avid extemporizer,
Stuck in joking conversation:
I extemporize.

"Tell me a joke,"
So I improvise, I think of one on the spot.
A classic comes to mind:
"What's black and white and red all over?"

"I hear you're the world's best expert in octopi,"
my friend says, citing the beginning of a game we like to play.
"Well, octopi actually come from outer space," I extemporize.

Extemporizing: something I do constantly. Sometimes it sounds silly, and it's meant to. It's a game of words and confidence.

Sometimes, it's a quick escape out of a surprise situation.

Extemporization: a helpful skill.

  • winter coming

    winter's coming on fast-
    better chop enough wood.

pluck the last fruits of the harvest-
then say goodnight to the garden,
resting under a blanket of leaves and love.

  • Goodbye Whisper

    In the vet's office.
    My bunny, sedated.
They are coming soon with the second shot.

She had a good life. I hope she finds peace.
I'm going to miss her so much.
I love you, Whisper. I'm sorry.

  • in the "olden times"

Do you think people 100 years ago, in rural Vermont, looked up at the sky, at the milky way, the moon and all the stars? Do you think they marveled at them, and taught their children the constellations?
