Fear

Fear.
It is part of life,
shows us life,
the true parts of life in this world.
Without fear,
who would we be?
Not human, it would seem.
Fear is a thing inside all of the living,
Inside the mouse's little heart,
as the owl flies overhead,
inside of the elk,
as the wolf springs,
Inside of the people,
in the face of loss.
Fear is to be respected,
for it shows us the truth,
but as the mother bear protects her cub,
though she fears the hunter,
it is not to be backed down to,
but to be faced.

  • Flurry

    My heart breaks

    For every snowflake

    That twirls down,

    Solitary

    Amongst a gray sky

    It looks lonely, you see

Not as if I don’t know how that feels.

  • Fallen Tree

A tree is downed in the forest

It appears as a skeletal hand resting upon the snow covered floor

Brown beneath, like ivory rotting away as it ages

And pure white on top, bone bleached by the sun.

  • Small Things

I’ve started looking forward to the little things a little more

Than I look forward to next year

Because it feels like next year is uncertain.

I’m excited to eat peanut butter toast in the car before skiing,
