Foolish Wishes

Wishes are a funny thing,

they are a thread of hope that pulls until it hits the next stitch,

the next wish,

I can't say I'm not one the fools who try,

I wish on everything I can find.

Eye lashes,           I want them to be yours-

Shooting stars,        I want you to watch them with me-

Four leaf clovers,       If I found one I'd give it to you-

11:11,               I wait in bed until the clock strikes-

but I want you next to me-

Dandelions,          I know if I gave that to you, you would just blow                                                                it back in my face-

                                                           but I'd laugh-

                                                    And fall a little more-

Birthday candles,                 Every year it's you that I wish for-

Coins in the fountain,        I save my spare change for those wishes-

Wishbones,      Every thanksgiving I ask my sister to break it with me-

Just so I can maybe have an extra wish-

Maybe my wishes are false hope,

or maybe I just haven't wished hard enough.

But in a way-

That's just wishful thinking I suppose.

Do you ever wish?

for me...?
