Icarus

You are the sun

So beautiful it hurts to look at you

You’re my only one

You’re the sun

Lighting up the dark planet of my heart

You are the only one

Every feature of your face a work of art

I wanted to stare into the sun

Up close, see every color and shade of golden light

I wanted to be surrounded by it, not look at

Anything else, not put up a fight

When you burned my eyes

I wanted to touch the sun,

Feel the tantalizing flames against my skin

I ignore the burning pain, don’t run

I’m enchanted, you’re pulling me in

Fingers and hands turned bright red now, hurting

But at least I match you, now, both of us burning

I’m smiling through it though because I am finally here

The air is burning hot but my mind is clear

I love the sun

I press my hands against you, engulfed by golden light

Until

Wax

Dripping like sweat

Wings falling to pieces, my safety, my net

And I look into your eyes pleading “save me”

But you just watch from the sky as I

Fall

Down

Down

Down

Into

The sea

Waves crashing, surrounding me

The last thing I think it “I love the sun”

Even though you destroyed me
