If I Woke Up and I Didn't Remember What Mirrors Were

I would look at one and smile

see a teenager with cupid bow lips

see deep brown eyes, too big for them

see off center and crooked features

see too round of a face, too sharp of a jaw

see dusty brown hair in the process of becoming longer

see hair that was supposed to curl but lies frizzy and uneven

see too many beauty marks in the wrong spots

see ear piercings put in not symmetrically

see a person before me in the glass

I would point and say "who is that"

I would point and say "what is this"

I would point and say "They are beautiful"

I would point and ask "What is their name?"

And someone would respond

"That's you, Eriu. That is you."

I would look at the glass again and see

everything I had seen before

but this time:

"I am beautiful. Who would've thought?"

*apologies if this isn't coherent, I am writing/editing this at 1:30 am because I am in a play preforming in like two months and haven't learned my lines yet lol*
