As the last light fades, so do the birds.
So do the rays of sunshine.
So does the warmth in the air.
A chill gets carried across the gentle breeze as it ruffles the leaves of the trees and makes them dance.
As the last light fades, so does the sun;
He ducks behind the trees, then disappears beneath the horizon.
Still, he gives one last smile to the world. "Rest," he whispers, as he goes away till morning.
The sky changes;
bright blue, then with pink, and gold, and periwinkle. Then with purple, with black, and white.
The moon so desperately wants to shine, so she rises from her bed into the heavens above.
She shyly smiles down upon the earth, her soft rays coming down, and the stars around her shining in turn.
As the light hits their branches, the trees begin to sway, calmly, quietly,
dancing,
dancing,
dancing.
And the moon, her soft, melodious voice ringing out to the world below, she sings, "To sleep, my darlings, to sleep.
Close your eyes.
Rest your head.
Have good dreams,
and go to bed.
I will watch,
from heaven above,
with peace and caring,
with life and love.
To sleep, my darlings, to sleep.
Close your eyes.
Rest your head.
Have good dreams,
and go to bed."
Her song sweeps across the meadows, the plains, the rivers, the mountains, and mighty earth herself, as the sun sings his last refrain, "I must go.
I must go.
My light does fade,
But my love still shows.
By stars above,
by stars above,
You will always,
have my love."
And the earth, the whole earth, listening to their songs, her heart at peace,
she sways,
she sways,
sways,
sways,
and then she falls still, as The Last Light fades.
