The Lighter Side

I can scoop quartfuls of poetry from the earth's recesses
And my feet love to pound on a drum
(The ground).
I embrace the wind
And I’ve met the ocean
But we are not close enough yet to embrace.
I like to jump between the world’s stepping stones
But only when I know it’s safe enough that I won’t fall.
I only fall when it feels like flying
And I leap, too,
To get close to the sky.
I imagine what the stars will taste like
But I know they are made from chemicals I don’t want to swallow.
I envy birds
The children of the wind
And I love laughter
It’s beautiful.
