Making You Cookies

I tug the small white apron on over my head
I love this apron
it smells like cookies and happy memories

I put my worn out baseball cap on backwards
to keep my short whispy hair out of my face
and start baking

flour
sugar
butter
eggs
the seaon of baking has begun

chocolate chips litter the floor
flour somehow got on the ceiling
there are a million dirty dishes in the sink
and you wouldn't even start beliveing
the things that I tell you
oh the mess that I made

I ran out of baking trays
and started using pans
in and out of the oven
tray after pan
and pan after tray
unitll the smell fills my house to it's rafters

timers beep
and mixer wirs
pots clang and
oven purs

mom comes in and half a batch dissapears
my time manegment goes
and lord only knows
how much dough I've consumed

every inhale a wave of sweet scent
every exhale a new tray of tasty treats
every time I look up somethings needing atention
and don't even mention
the lack things I've had to eat

from twleve to four I've stood in this kitchen
working my butt of making you cookies.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
