Memory Mural

It is impossible to travel through time

But I can

Because every time the song about rain it brings me to the summer

When we danced all day in the sprinkler

And each time I smell that scent

Geranium I think

In the hand soap

It brings me to a time I do not remember

But I feel like I have known it my whole life

When I see the blue tie dye shirt

It reminds me of when I got a good role in the school play

That song my sister sang so much in the spring

And the smell of hand sanitizer reminds me of

When I started online school

To scared to learn in person

The scent of that lotion takes me to when I got that bad sunburn

The aroma of sunscreen those beautiful vacations to Ogunquit

Maine

This is only some of the memories

The ones just around the bend

If I made a list of all of them

It would never end

  • Separation

    Why does the rain
    tap on the window
    when you can't feel it?
Why will it remind you of
the dew drops dancing on the grass blades in early spring,
of August's ocean breeze spraying saltwater in your hair,

  • Empty

    The person is empty
    the person with no identity
    the one with no personality
Who doesn't now what yesterday was like or the day before
Know one seems to know this person anymore
  • Understanding

    Somewhere in my past
a sunny snow day haunts me
    the serenity
    Feels too cliche
    to enjoy
I remember the glances out of the window
on a day that finally feels like spring
because winter can be long and dark
