Menendez Brothers: are they actually monsters?

TW : MENTION OF ABUSE (PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SEXUAL) AND SLIGHT MENTION OF MURDER!

The "Menendez Brothers Case" blew up late in 2024, thanks to the creation of "Monsters", who had also created the well known "Dahmer," which is another well known case.

But are the Menendez Brothers really monsters? Did this vile murder of their parents have a good reason? Or should they stay in jail, separated from each other, for 20 more years?

The two brothers (known as the Menendez brothers), Erick Menendez and Lyle Menendez, killed their parents, known as Jose and Kitty (who also were known as wealthy beings), in their Beverly Hills home on August 20, 1989 with shotguns. They called 911, and stated "someone killed my parents!" when in reality, that someone was them.

They were investigated and stated "they just got home, and found them dead in the family room." The police believed them, and continued on.

Weeks later, they thought this case was going to run cold soon. But thats when they got a lead, the brothers were using a lot of their dead parents money, and they seemed happy, and they were not grieving this huge death in their life. They bought things like Rolex watches and real estate. While this was seen as unusual, it wasn't reasonable evidence.

In March 1990, police got an unlikely lead from Judalon Smyth, the therapist that the brothers had been talking to after their parents murder, she stated that they confessed to the murder of their parents, and they got arrested that same month.

Their court case was highly publicized, besides being brothers and being tried together, they had different juries deciding their fates, they both were aware that they could face death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.

The brothers testified that the murder of their parents was reasonable, as for years they faced many versions of abuse from mainly their mother and father, Lyle Menendez stated that his father had been sexually assaulting him since he was as young as 6-years-old.

They stated days leading up to the murder, they had confronted their parents on the abuse they lived through, and afterwards, were afraid of their parents murdering them first to keep them quiet. And this is why they went into the family room and shot them multiple times, out of fear.

In the second trial, they were found guilty to first-degree murder, and sentenced to life without any possibility of parole.

In 2023, almost decades later, new evidence had been found in their case, they found out, the brothers were telling the truth about the years of abuse.

"The boys were abused as children. They were abused their whole life... and this is a manslaughter case, not a murder case, it's that simple." Gardner, one of the brother's appellate attorney.

The first bit of new evidence was a letter that Erik wrote to his cousin Andy Cano in December, about 8 months before the murder, in a part, the letter reads, "i've been trying to avoid dad. it's still happening Andy but it's worse for me now... every night i stay up thinking he might come."

The second bit of evidence was a new witness, Roy Rossello, who stated that he had also been sexually abused by Jose Menendez.

The case was being reviewed in October of 2024, and they are still determining the release of the brothers now.

So what do you think? Do you think these brothers murdered their parents out of fear and weariness? Or should they stay in prison the rest of their lives just because they didn't want to be living through abuse still?

What I think is that they should be released, as stated by friends and family members, they are no real threat to the world just because the weary murder.

So are they really the monsters that everyone portrays them as?
