Mother Earth

mother nature she is called – mother earth

yet what kind of mother is she?

letting her children hurt themselves and their brothers

letting them kill each other for entertainment, for "food"

but then why are there so many corpses?

the putrid smell of wasted lives
is all that fills her mouth now

once,
it was fresh mountain air
and spring water so cold
that filled her lungs and soul

once,
the wind tossed sand gently into her face
now it is only chemicals.

oh, how mother earth does despair
that her own body has come to such ruin

every day she wonders
"Have I failed as a parent?"

"As a nurturer?"

but oh, mother, mother earth
you were always more than we deserved

i'm afraid we failed you
and it may too late to save you

  • winter coming

    winter's coming on fast-
    better chop enough wood.

pluck the last fruits of the harvest-
then say goodnight to the garden,
resting under a blanket of leaves and love.

  • Goodbye Whisper

    In the vet's office.
    My bunny, sedated.
They are coming soon with the second shot.

She had a good life. I hope she finds peace.
I'm going to miss her so much.
I love you, Whisper. I'm sorry.

  • in the "olden times"

Do you think people 100 years ago, in rural Vermont, looked up at the sky, at the milky way, the moon and all the stars? Do you think they marveled at them, and taught their children the constellations?
