Not Cold Anymore

The wind blows in my face, and I shiver. It's so miserably cold. I feel soft, little things pelting my coat. Lifting my hands, I reach them out and find little white dots speckling them. White dots fall from the sky, coming down and down ceaselessly. They swirl and dance around, the hard granite stone slowly being covered with them. They land on trees, and the wind giggles, swiping at them until they fall off the branches. I gasp in delight and join the wind, swirling around in the snow until it's a blur of pure white. I stick out my tongue, waiting for a white fleck to rest on it.

It's snowing!

I know it's just water, but it feels so nice on my hand. It looks so pretty, flecking the blank, cloudless sky. I rub my hands together and watch as I send a small snowball sailing to the big oak tree. The wind follows it, shaking the oak tree. I smile and turn around to him.

He snorts, blue eyes matching the sky.

“Have you never seen snow before?”

  • A Stranger Beneath the Leaves

I finger a rich, dark green leaf, dappled with sunlight. Running my fingers over the rough bark of an oak tree, I lift my head towards the sunlight. The sun warms me down to my toes, and I scoop up handfuls of dirt.

  • Who Are You?

The harsh, cruel blue light of the moon shone over my face. I once saw it as beautiful and gentle, but I don’t anymore. My hair had countless pins and hairclips in it, so many that it was almost a half of my hair.
