in the "olden times"

Do you think people 100 years ago, in rural Vermont, looked up at the sky, at the milky way, the moon and all the stars? Do you think they marveled at them, and taught their children the constellations?
Do you think they'd cry if they knew their descendants might never see the sky so full?

Do you think the people who hunted and farmed for a living, on their homestead way out in the forest, would be upset if they knew 160,000 birds died every year, pointlessly?
That their deaths are not even intentional, their bodies left to rot somewhere?

Do you think they would cry if they saw the food we eat? The chemicals and preservatives? That most people do not have the opportunity to grow their own food? That healthy food is expensive and unavailable to many people?

In many ways, their worlds were worse. But if they saw our world now, and had the choice to live here or return to their own time, what would they choose?

(So this is specifically based on the rural Vermonters who had the opportunity to farm. I am so sorry that this is not more inclusive, but I honestly have little to no knowledge of other areas history. I was inspired recently to write this, and I just went with it. I'm sorry if this is offensive to you, please private message me so we can talk about what's wrong and how to fix it.)
