to the other world

I watch him from afar, as he gets out of his car.
I can tell he’s scared.
I smooth out my dress and lean up against the brick behind me.
I watch his eyes, and they tell me everything I need to know.

My laughter is louder than the engine as we cruise down the coast.                                                         He’s getting used to the idea of leaving.

I can feel it in the soft strength of his arm around my waist.
He looks happy.
He thinks I’m crazy, but I’m just saving him.
Saving him from the love his home tried to give.
I tell him I love him but how could he believe me?
I wouldn’t,
But maybe a boy like that could be deceived,

 for the sake of love.
