There are hundreds
Of thousands
Of wings in our world,
Each one a simple perfection
Dancing in the spotlight
Of the sun,
Twirling under the glitter
Speckled by the stars;
It is a belief of mine
That we don't fall in love once
In our lives,
But hundreds of times,
Each a set of wings
That blossom in our heart
And flutter with every beat
Of our souls
As we are greeted with connection;
Perhaps laughter
Is a butterfly
Twirling through star-like wildflowers,
And simple kindness
A dragonfly
Flitting through dewdrops of joy,
With nervous smiles
As hummingbirds,
Singing their sweetness softly
And with fleeting courage,
And perhaps encouragement
Is a firefly
Winking through the night
Speckled with stars flecked with stories;
It is life
Which these flutters rise up to,
Our greatest love
That sparkles brightest
Through our translucent souls,
And so high we are lifted
With these flickers
That we can hear our own heartbeats
Fall into step with that of the world,
So high our hearts burst
Into the flight
Of a million wings.
