The Paradoxical Overcoat

The entire universe is a confusing bundle
Of sticks, horses, thread, songs, yarn
My great grey
Brown
Blue
Red
Overcoat
Would, will, shall, did relflect this
It is made up of warm ice cream
An interesting work of non-fiction
Healthy illnesses
A reality show's truth
Gentle acts of violence
And a child's corruption
All on her own
The garment is a paradox in itself too
An overcoat I wear under my skin
Nothing makes sense anymore
And at the same time, everything is sense-making

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

  • Papercuts

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
