the parts I let them see

If I were to drop dead
right here
right now
or disappear
into thin air
how many people would actually care
would you even blink
or even stop to think
or would you just brush it off
as just one more unfortunate event of the world
saying your sorry without tears in your eyes
would anybody understand
who I am
would anybody care
that I don't like being called pretty
unless your one particular person
or that it bothers me when people read over my shoulder
would anybody remember
how much I love my family
and my one real friend
would anybody recall my rare true smile
or my mischievous 'I'm about to steal your hat' grin
will anybody remember the real me
or will they only remember the parts i let them see?

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

  • Paper Frogs

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
