I can’t breathe
When the open air has been compressed
And stuffed inside the rigid frame
Of my house
And every day
The words forming under my tongue
Are pulled out
And thrown at the wall
And smashed into a million little pieces
Because life is changing too quickly
And what I say one day
May be different the next morning
And as broken thoughts
Plummet into my ears
I don’t know what to trust
What to let my porous heart absorb
And what to reject
I wish I could run back to last year
And grasp its wrists
And never let it go
Or run to next year
And clutch onto its ankles
And never let it go
If we could escape
Fly
Soar
But our feet are planted
And we’re going to fight this out
When the open air has been compressed
And stuffed inside the rigid frame
Of my house
And every day
The words forming under my tongue
Are pulled out
And thrown at the wall
And smashed into a million little pieces
Because life is changing too quickly
And what I say one day
May be different the next morning
And as broken thoughts
Plummet into my ears
I don’t know what to trust
What to let my porous heart absorb
And what to reject
I wish I could run back to last year
And grasp its wrists
And never let it go
Or run to next year
And clutch onto its ankles
And never let it go
If we could escape
Fly
Soar
But our feet are planted
And we’re going to fight this out
