random assignment from my humanities class

“Flip Flop Flip Flop”  said Sarah’s shoes as she walked down the ramp to the beach. She does this almost every day. She is going to see her friends named John and Omar.Sarah is a Jew and goes to Temple every Friday and Saturday. John is Christian and is baptized. Omar is a Muslim and follows the Five Pillars of Islam.

    SWISH,SWISH,SWISH

wow! There are a lot of waves today! Sarah thought when she heard the rhythmic swish.

“ Hey, Omar and John,” she said when she was within earshot distance.

      “Hey” they both replied.

Ok, just keep the conversation off religion Sarah thought to herself.

“Oh my gosh guys! Just yesterday my mom said we are going to perform hajj to mecca!” blurted Omar. “Anyway, what's new with you guys?” he asked.

She spent a lot of time with her friends on the beach but she didn't like talking about religion;it always made her uneasy. She tried to steer the conversation away from religion many times before. Yet she never succeeded.

“Anyway”  said John “ what are the Five Pillars of Islam?”

Uh oh Sarah thought This won't be good.

“The five pillars of Islam  include faith in Allah, pray 5 times a day  preferably in a mosque, give  a certain percent of yearly income  to the poor, too fast on the holy month of Ramadan and to perform Hajj  to Mecca once in your lifetime. these are the five pillars of Islam and all Muslims follow these.” Said Omar in a monotone voice.

Omar was well known for lecturing his friends and family.

Huh. Maybe I've been wrong to think that my friends won't be accepting of other religions Sarah contemplated in her mind.

“Wow, why didn't I know that,” John wondered. “That's so fascinating.”

“What about you Sarah? Can you please tell us about Christianity? I heard it's the most well-known religion.” Ask Omar. “ I'm sure you know more than I do.”

“ What do you want to know?” He asked  in a Content tone of voice.

“ Anything, there's always more to learn.”  stated Sarah.

“ Well, well, well, where should I start?” John prompted. “ The right to become a Christian starts with baptism. I'm sure you know what that is? Catholics believe in one God who is in three forms. God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Ten Commandments were passed down from Moses on Mount Sinai and you must follow the ten commandments to be under Jesus Christ protection. Most churches are based on the teachings and beliefs of Jesus of Nazareth; he is the son of God and the savior of his followers.” John said joyfully.

I never thought that Christianity was so interesting but I guess it is for two people who are not Christian, Sarah thought.
