If you can’t be a genius
If I were the valedictorian
I could say I was concentrating on my studies

I could say I was concentrating on my music
Or my acting
If I could make a symmetrical pot
Or draw a perfect comic
Or train chickens
Or build a computer in my garage
I would have an excuse
As it is
I’m just a freak
A failure
A loser with no friends
Not a reclusive genius
The fish are back. The first thing I see when I open my eyes is two of them fighting, hovering just below the popcorn ceiling. Well, that’s a development, at least. I yawn and rub the crustiness out of the corners of my eyes.
