Running without ears

I was running down the street when it started to rain

So I took out my hearing aids.

The world quieted around me.

I kept on

running,

each foot fall

thudding through my body.

The wind

collided with my earlobes.

The sensation was

Odd

Something that I am not used to.

At last

got back to where I started and

put my hearing aids back in.

Sound came rushing back,

Filling my ears.

Normal.

At last.

    Every day

I feel like I am constantly being watched.

    Judged

    And looked down upon.

I know that this might not be true

But I feel the same regardless.

    Because that is human nature.

As a teenager I am expected to conform.

Even though people tell you that you should be distant “stand out from the crowd” the second you do they tell you “what are you doing?”
