to see the universe

the universe exists everywhere
but it's hidden

in every second of silence
in every mindful moment

only there can you see the wholeness of the world

only when you step out of the city
with its noise and smoke

and you step into the woods
so silent
so full of life,
real life,

only then can you see the stars

never in the city,
where dreams are lost and hope dies,

never in those human spaces.

for the universe is not human,
and it will not reveal itself
unless one becomes part of the universe

to see the universe,
sit in silence
ground yourself
frolic in nature
watch the stars

to see the universe,
recognize your place as part of it
and look within
by looking out.

  • winter coming

    winter's coming on fast-
    better chop enough wood.

pluck the last fruits of the harvest-
then say goodnight to the garden,
resting under a blanket of leaves and love.

  • Goodbye Whisper

    In the vet's office.
    My bunny, sedated.
They are coming soon with the second shot.

She had a good life. I hope she finds peace.
I'm going to miss her so much.
I love you, Whisper. I'm sorry.

  • in the "olden times"

Do you think people 100 years ago, in rural Vermont, looked up at the sky, at the milky way, the moon and all the stars? Do you think they marveled at them, and taught their children the constellations?
