I should've worked harder.
I should've put the time in.
If I did more I'd be number one.
I should've been first.
Nobody likes second.
I hate it.
That feeling when you know you could've done better.
It's not a would've feeling because that's not part of it.
I had everything I needed and then some.
Even with all I had, I couldn't win.
I should've trained harder.
I should've tried harder.
So many things I should’ve done.
Looking back I wish I did.
It could've changed this.

I'm willing to bet you tried harder than you realize... It's so easy to look back and tell ourselves we could have done so much more, achieved such high heights if only we'd applied ourselves, but the truth is, most of us are doing the best we can at the time. Believe in that about yourself!
And hey, second place is a wonderful place to be! Did you know Olympic athletes who place second feel a greater sense of dissatisfaction than those who place third? It's because second place is SO CLOSE to first, but those in third place are just so proud of themselves for having placed at all, having tried and accomplished anything at all. I try to remember that wonderful "third-place mindset" when I fall into the trap of comparing myself to others.
