A Simple Cure

I was anxious in theater class. I was talking at Wren, my theater friend of a couple months, blabbing tirelessly on about some kids' book I liked. With every word that came out of my mouth, I became more convinced I would never be likable. I hated to apologize, hated to ask, but I couldn’t help myself. “Sorry if I’m being annoying,” I blurted out. Wren simply replied, “No, I’ll tell you if you're being annoying.” It was the most comforting thing anyone's ever said to me. From that moment on, I trusted them completely.

I always wanted a daily recess. Now that I finally had one, I didn’t want to go outside. Last summer, I moved to Vermont from Miami. Just like every book character, I’m the new kid. I love it.
