I have six minutes to write this poem
So I better make it good
I'd polish it and varnish it
If I had the time, I would
But since I have six minutes
Oh drat! Now I have five
I must cram in this poem
So it stays alive
I could write about the sunsets
Or a wild but gentle horse
I could write about how storms kiss ships
And none can chart their course
I could write about the flowers
The poppies, rose, and more
But I only have five minutes
Well heck, now I have four
I want to impress my parents
And my teachers, and my friends
But they won't read this poem
If it just never ends
I should write a poem
About courage, about valor
But here I am, just brainstorming
Wasting away the hour
My brain is almost breaking
As I think of these last rhyme
I had two minutes, now it's one
Curse you, flying time
I have just a few seconds
I'm trekking through the back-words
But as I go to read it
I realize I wrote backwards
So I better make it good
I'd polish it and varnish it
If I had the time, I would
But since I have six minutes
Oh drat! Now I have five
I must cram in this poem
So it stays alive
I could write about the sunsets
Or a wild but gentle horse
I could write about how storms kiss ships
And none can chart their course
I could write about the flowers
The poppies, rose, and more
But I only have five minutes
Well heck, now I have four

And my teachers, and my friends
