With her cheek pressed against the window of the car, hurtling down a freeway to god knew where, she watched with tired eyes and a heavy soul as the scenery flew by. Too fast for her to capture the details, but then again didn’t everything feel like it was moving too fast?
She closed her eyes and imagined that in some far off place, in a few years time, she’d stumble upon something that made her feel complete. Something that filled those empty spots she felt when she lay awake at night, staring at the distant, cratered moon.
The problem came with not knowing what it was she was missing. She ached, clutched onto that tiny candlelit fire of hope, but turned back to the window to drown out her thoughts in the expanse of wilderness on the other side of the glass.
