Something I Don’t Know

What are the words I am trying to find?

I gave every piece of myself

Until I almost floated into the Star spattered heavens

And saw reflected in the earth

Centuries

That have passed

And a million eyes of girls who have witnessed them

They look like flowers

Tiger lillies

And dahlias dancing in the sun

Palest purple asters bobbing in the moonlight,

their yellow centers hopefully shining on.

Laughter trickling through the woods,

Untraceable,

Like willows bending in the wind.

There is something that ties it all together:

I do not know what.

But I promise you

There is a string

Of light, perhaps,

That traces the peaks of the mountains

And winds through the rivers

And rolls with the ocean

And sways with the trees

And falls down with the rain

And encircles my eyes

Just out of sight.
