Something Unexpected

If I knew then what I know now,
Would I have done it?
Would I have leaped into the abyss of black inky darkness,
Like a never-ending chapter of the Twilight Zone,
Strange things happened down there.
I was moving so fast,
It was like that scene from Willy Wonka,
When they're on the boat and the awful images fill their heads and light up the sky,
It kept going and going,
The farther down I went the more grotesque it became,
Like spiders and monsters and bats,
Swarming down,
Down,
Down,
Spiraling around me like I was caught in some awful replay of the same thrasher film,
Then with a sudden jolt,
All the lights and feral images stopped,
I looked around,
And before me the images linked together like the lost pieces of a puzzle,
To become a picture of me,
But,
Not really me,
I was older and there was something else...
Something unexpected,
Something... Off
And then I fell,
Slowly,
Ever so slowly,
Into the light of the strange version of myself,
The glow began to dim,
And I suddenly found myself on a marble floor,
Clean and surprisingly open,
There was no ceiling,
And it was sunset,
But,
It was strange,
It seemed as though the sky was somehow exploding,
Like the rising moon was hit by a comet and was now falling in big chunks,
They slowly grew closer and closer,
When they popped through the atmosphere,
It was as though it was a bubble,
And then they began hurtling toward me,
And just before they hit my skin,
They turned to glass,
Cutting into my flesh,
Causing blood to begin flowing off of me,
Like a deep,
Red river,
Like red tide,
And then everything faded back to black,
But the shard of glass kept digging into my skin,
I sit now,
In my own puddle of dried scarlet,
When I look up,
I see a beam of light...

Morning,
Coming to great me,
I can feel the warm golden rays healing my scratches,
making the puddle wash away with a waterfall,
Bubbling softly,
And all around me,
Flowers and trees started to bloom,
Slowly,
But surely,
The green sprouts grew,
Sycamores,
Lilacs,
Oaks,
Daisies,
All flowing and growing with the suns warmth,
Suddenly all around me,
There were rabbits and butterflies and deer,
Hopping and flying and leaping about,
The sunbeams looking like magic and shooing away all of the darkness,
In the grass,
Surrounded by the calming scent of flowers and silage,
With the feeling of sunlight on my face,
And the sound of birds chirping merrily and the waterfall running,
I fall slowly into a deep, sound, restful,
Sleep.
