The Stone and the River

They said to think about who you are

And who you want to be

After camp

And I thought

What if I don’t know

The changes I want to happen to me?

What if change

Is best

Faced like the wind

Whipping at your face, making you squint

And then slowly you’re a different person

Maybe

I don’t want to plan

For who I want to be

And I want the world

To shape me

And my people shape me and my forest and none of it’s really mine,

Is it?

But we’re together

Stone and river

Shaping each other

And I don’t want to plan

How the river will look next year

Or how the stone will look in a lifetime.

  • On being brave

There are days when I fall asleep wondering about the line between stupid and brave.

    Brave

Is a hero rushing into battle

    Ready to fight

    For their passion

    Stupid

Is a hero rushing into battle

  • Trees Talk

    The trees talk,

    you know?

They talk and if you listened

    you would know,

    they whisper

    like kindergarteners

who can't stand straight in lines

    but they can jump straight
