Sweater Weather

Sweater Weather.
The time when the air is crisp and cold, but the snow has not yet fallen-
when I see an abundance of styles-
wool,
cotton,
fleeces,
patterns of diamonds, hearts,
and intricate flakes of snow,
skiers and mountains,
pale colors, dark, deep colors- even neon, or sometimes pastel-
such a wonderful diversity, I see in sweater weather.

Sweaters show personalities-
flashy, bold- that person must be confident!
or perhaps detailed,
carefully sown- I guess they have an appreciation of beauty!
Before you even know their name, a persons sweater can tell you so much about someone.
But that's not all!

Sweaters tell a story-
perhaps one has symbols, patterns- what could they mean?
They are there for a reason, I think...
or maybe pictures that tell a story,
or even holes ripped in the soft wool, worn from years of age- passed down through generations, I'd assume- I wonder who wore that one- perhaps royalty!

Sometimes I think that sweaters are like people-
all different,
yet the same in many ways.

  • Flurry

    My heart breaks

    For every snowflake

    That twirls down,

    Solitary

    Amongst a gray sky

    It looks lonely, you see

Not as if I don’t know how that feels.

  • Fallen Tree

A tree is downed in the forest

It appears as a skeletal hand resting upon the snow covered floor

Brown beneath, like ivory rotting away as it ages

And pure white on top, bone bleached by the sun.

  • Small Things

I’ve started looking forward to the little things a little more

Than I look forward to next year

Because it feels like next year is uncertain.

I’m excited to eat peanut butter toast in the car before skiing,
