taking back red

one-sided conversations

my face, drenched in scarlet

one size, no alterations

my fist, clenched and tarnished

her crimson misdirections

calculated remarks

your hints and missed intentions

now you’ve traded your heart

bent, harsh, ruby reflections

light scatters randomly

sent sharp, rudely blunt questions

hopes shattered handsomely

the sweet revenge left untaken

witty quips left unsaid

and I wasn’t left unshaken

but I’m taking back red.
