Chapter 10
The Chosen One looked out the window. “On the night of the plan! Well, I guess we will have to get past them too. Has Lucas been caught yet…” He mumbled. “No, I am sure he will be found soon though,” his servant replied. “Damn it!” “I have an entire army but I cannot catch three brats that threaten my rule!? Leave at once, tell some of those useless soldiers to catch that kid,” “wait… How do three children threaten your rule?” The servant asked curiously. The Chosen One stuttered. Eventually he got closer to the servant and whispered into his ear. “One of them has a connection to The past, a power that is trying to stop my plan,” The servant nodded and left, and The Chosen One was alone. “That kid is exactly like his dad, not caring about money and power, just safety. Well, I’ll make sure he has the same fate as him,” He let out an evil laugh, one that rang out through the halls of the steel tower. It was now 6 pm, in a few hours the sun would set, ending daytime. It was a beautiful day, but Lucas could not focus on that. He led his friends down the corridor. There were no soldiers, but it felt like they could be around any one of the corners. Lucas was starting to panic. He had not found the way up to the next floor, and as soldiers started to flood the building, it was getting more dangerous. Lucas was hopeful there was something. Lucas reached a dead end.
“Dang!” Lucas had found nothing, just a sign that read ot eht txen roolf. Wait, Lucas thought. Is that backwards? He wrote it down in his luminous light created book and translated it. “To the next floor!” Lucas cried. He ran forward and Lucas entered a secret passageway. Lucas saw a dark stairway in front of him. Only an extremely small luminous light was in it. He looked back. “It is a secret passageway!” He called. “Just go forward,” Lucas saw his friends enter the passageway, marking a checkpoint in their journey.
“What the heck was that sign?” Daniel asked Lucas, confused.
“It was backwards for: To the next floor,” Lucas explained. “I also saw a few soldiers heading down the other path, it seemed irregular…” He added. What could The Chosen One be planning? Catherine thought. They did not know this, but as the three went up the steps, they knew that they would eventually face The Chosen One.
Meanwhile, the city was uniting, standing up to the atrocities The Chosen One had done and then covered up. People from around the city, the poor, working class, and even some of the wealthy were protesting. The Chosen One was still calm. I can just send out the soldiers if they try to break in. His servant sprinted in.
“Sir! All of our soldiers are either trying to find the boy or preparing for the plan,"
"You mean we cannot stop the protest!? Find MORE soldiers, and end the attack on my leadership!”
The Chosen One showed his powers and threw a luminous light created knife at his servant. It only missed him by a few inches. The servant was frightened of the president’s powers. “Yes… yes sir,” The servant quietly left the room. In the secret stairway, Lucas could hear the sounds of the tower. The protesters, the dancers of the ballroom, The yells of the infuriated Chosen One, and a weird noise coming from behind them. The noise was the loudest of all the noises, and it sounded like thousands of people were preparing to do something, but Lucas did not know what. There was a door in front of them. Lucas carefully opened it. Lucas knew what they had found, the final floor. It seemed to be the biggest of them all, on the left and right of him were two hallways, decorated with gold and luminous lights.
“Wow… this is more luxurious than the first floor!” Catherine marveled. “Should we split up to try and cover more ground?” Daniel proposed.
“I like that, me and Catherine will go to the left, and Daniel, you go to the right,” Lucas told him. They went their own ways.
“Do you think we will find the prison?” Catherine asked Lucas.
“I think so,” Lucas replied. “It has to be here,” Lucas was amazed by the gems The Chosen One owned. Too bad he manipulated people to get them, Lucas thought. He tried to find a luminous light in his pockets.
“The pink luminous lights! I almost forgot! I’m going to save them for the final fight,” For now, Lucas had a normal luminous light in his hand to protect from any surprise attacks. Lucas could hear the sounds of soldiers.
“Where is he!” He heard one yell. He still had to be quiet. Catherine had her bow in her hands. The hallway branched out into several different passageways, each one was as rich and valuable as the main hallway, but Lucas and Catherine still went straight. They had to find the prison. Daniel also passed many rooms, hopefully he could find information or some resources to help them fight The Chosen One, maybe he would find the prison. He was not sure, but as the hallway branched off for him just like it had for Lucas and Catherine, one room caught his eye. The room was dark, but Daniel turned on a light and everything there was revealed. A small book laid on a huge table taking up most of the space in the room. Daniel approached it. It seemed pretty clear there were no traps. Daniel read the cover.
“The journal of… Alex?” The book, unlike the landscape around them, was tattered. There were many missing pages, the cover was almost unreadable, and it seems like it had been through a lot. Daniel immediately opened it to the last entry. If the child figures out the truth, then it is all over. His connection to the past of the city is extremely large. He is a symbol of the people, and I need to kill him. Daniel stood shocked. He had found more information on Alex, but who was he? Daniel knew his intentions though. He took the journal, and ran to meet up with Lucas and Catherine. Lucas and Catherine were reaching the end of the hall. Only one door remained. Lucas opened it, and entered.
It was dark and dusty, he had to push away cobwebs every once and a while. Lucas took out a luminous light, and he was able to see. Many of the cells were empty, only having the skeletal remains of people who had attempted to defy The Chosen One. He still found nothing, but he was reaching the end of the prison, and that is where he saw people. Men and women, thrown in there for crimes they did not commit.
“We are breaking all of you out of here!” Lucas said with condfidence. People cheered, they had not seen the light of day in a while.
“Some of us were arrested after a protest last night. We are happy to see you,” One explained.
“Lucas?” He heard a woman call. It was a familiar voice. Lucas rushed to see his mom, he did not care there were prison bars, they hugged even with them separating them.
“What happened!?” “There is a lot to explain,” Catherine followed Lucas. She searched around. Her mom had to be here, she had gone all this way, and as she looked into one of the final cells, she knew her journey had paid off.
“Mother!” She exclaimed. “Catherine,” Like Lucas and his mom, they hugged, even with the prison bars separating them. Lucas sliced the bars up with his sword. It was an easy task for him at this point in the journey. All of the prisoners were free. Daniel joined Lucas and Catherine. He was speechless.
“You… you two found them!” Just then, they all heard footsteps coming from the main hallway. Everyone got quiet, and the footsteps eventually passed. “Okay,” Lucas whispered. “We need to get everyone to safety from the policeman, and to safety,” Lucas said.
“And how are we going to do that?” Catherine asked him.
“With help from me!” A man with a red shirt, black shorts, and tattoos on his left arm stood in front of all of them.
“Braun!” Lucas cheered.
“So this is the guy you have told me so much about,” Daniel commented.
“It is so great to see you!” Jane told him. Based on the looks on Margaret and Jane's faces, Lucas could tell they had seen him before.
“Im so happy to be in the building where the man that betrayed us is ruling! I know you can get yourselves out of here,” He turned to the prisoners. “I will help you three to defeat The Chosen One’s minions and save the city, but I will mostly be protecting the prisoners If you don’t, this place is not going to last long. I know you guys are all young, but the training you have all gotten is enough to rise up against this tyrant. Lucas, you have the powers of your father,” Lucas took a deep breath. “Use them, you have already led your friends through hard battles and have exposed what The Chosen One has done, just find out the truth, and end The Chosen One’s leadership for me, okay?” Lucas nodded. The truth? What is that? Lucas thought. “Catherine, I know you have the sniping skills of your mom, use that, you got this, and you… Daniel. “Yes?” “It seems like you are resourceful, and crafty. I have also heard from your friend that you are a nerd, so use that to help Lucas,” Daniel glared at Braun. “That is not nice, even though it is probably true,” he admitted. Lucas smiled. “Just remember, evil thrives when there is no good to stop it,” Lucas noticed a few soldiers heading towards them. “Go!” Lucas cried. “Defeat The Chosen One, for all of us,” His mother told him. Lucas sprinted at the three soldiers, sword in hand. “Boss, they’re here!” Lucas stopped dead in his tracks.
A man joined the three soldiers, but he was no ordinary man. Fifty soldiers stood behind him, ready for every order he made. The Chosen One, the ringleader of the entire city, stood in front of Lucas. “Well, it seems like I finally get to meet this weakling I have heard so much about,” Lucas heard a few chuckles from the soldiers. Just then, The Chosen One saw the prisoners. “Hey!-” He stopped. “Nice to see you!” Braun called. “Alex,” What!? Lucas, Daniel, and Catherine all thought. Before they could finish comprehending this, Margaret fired an arrow, hitting a soldier right in the chest. He silently fell to the ground. Lucas tightened the grip on his sword, which was bursting with the energy of luminous lights. It was totally silent for a few moments… only the sound of the protesters outside the building could be heard. Lucas was ready to break the silence in the room, to stand with the people of the Shining City. “CHARGE!!!” He yelled with all of his might. The three kids met the soldiers, starting the last battle.
Lucas struck first, injuring the first few soldiers with a slash. Troopers surrounded the three children, forcing them to adapt. Lucas attacked many soldiers at once, trying to make a path to break free from the circle of soldiers that had trapped them- It worked. Catherine stayed far from the soldiers, choosing to strike them from afar using her arrows. Daniel chose to be closer to them, pounding them into the ground. The Chosen One started to slowly retreat back into his office. He kept an eye on the battle, it felt like he knew this was going to happen. Just then, Catherine saw an opening in the defenses. She shot an arrow at The Chosen One, it seemed like a perfect shot, but the arrow… it clattered harmlessly to the ground. The Chosen One held up a luminous light. It seemed that he knew the attack was coming even before the shot was fired “Try as hard as you can, you will never be able to win!” The Chosen One let out a cackle that rang through the halls. There were about 35 soldiers left, Lucas estimated.
“Ah!” Daniel cried. Lucas guessed he had gotten hit by a flail. Lucas ran over to Catherine, who was sniping soldiers at the very back of the hallway.
“Do you think you can hold off these soldiers? I am going to find The Chosen One,"
"You got it, me and Daniel can take on these people,”
“I hope we can take these people down, and if we can’t, I am happy that I got to have this experience with my friends, and make a statement against evil. I am not going to let this go to waste,” Catherine nodded.
“Thank you for helping me find my mom, and I am happy that I have been on this journey. Now go, end this!” Lucas avoided soldiers as he got to The Chosen One’s office.
“Defeat these soldiers Daniel!” Lucas told his friend.
“You end that jerk!!!” Daniel called. Lucas got past the soldiers by staying unseen and entered the headquarters of The Chosen One. It was pitch black, Lucas couldn't see anything. “So, you have come all this way,” Alex spoke. “Just to let you know, when I killed your father, I gained his powers,” He held up a green luminous light, all the other lights turned on at once. What!? How do green luminous lights exist!? Lucas thought. Henchmen of The Chosen One stood in front of Lucas, guarding his way. One of them punched him, sending him flying back. Lucas darted at them and delivered several blows and cuts, and soon the henchmen fell. Lucas pulled out a pink luminous light, he needed it for this.
“Let me just ask you one question, why? Why would you come all this way, trying to kill me, even though you are nothing compared to me! Just like your father,” Lucas was ready for the question.
“I have spoken for the good of this city and for peace, I have revealed to the city the atrocities you have committed, and I have mastered my powers, just like my dad did. That is what nothing can do!” “Is that so?” “All you do is just lie and manipulate people, for your own profit,”
The Chosen One smirked. “How about we make a deal…” Lucas’s sword turned brighter. “If you win, my plan is called off, the city is saved, and everybody has equal rights. If I win, I go on with my plan, and I am still the ruler,” “What is this plan?” Lucas had been wondering this for ages. “To kill every single person in the city with my troops. They are stationed everywhere across the superstructure, waiting for my order. I have gained the trust of this stupid metropolis by helping them rebuild after a fire I created, now I am going to end it!!! I will also make so much money,” The Chosen One kept laughing and laughing uncontrollably. Lucas took a few steps back, he was trembling. If he did not win, the entire city would die, and The Chosen One would get what he wanted. The fire connected everything together, Lucas had learned the true secret of The Chosen One’s past. Lucas knew everything that had happened. The dream had been close to recreating it, and now it made sense. “Lets begin,” The Chosen One pulled out a green luminous light and threw it at Lucas. It exploded into a burst of flames. Our hero dodged it and got a distance away from the dictator. What!? Lucas thought. I didn't know he could throw that, let alone make it explode! Lucas dashed through the office, dodging more of the green Luminous lights. He got a brief glimpse of what was happening outside. The protesters were getting closer and closer to breaking into the tower, and there were no policemen in sight.
Lucas looked back at The Chosen One. “Even if I lose, the city will over power you,”
“Not if I destroy it first,”
Lucas ran over to him and delivered a deadly uppercut, knocking The Chosen One back. The Chosen One responded by throwing another green luminous light, this time hitting Lucas. The sunset was starting, and different colors mixed together, including red’s blue’s purple’s oranges, and yellows. The two exchanged blows, but Lucas noticed that his attacks were not as effective as his opponents, he needed more power. He got a distance from The Chosen One and then infused his sword with a pink luminous light. The light coming from the sword changed with the luminous light. The sword got brighter, and Lucas felt more energy coming from his sword. Lucas sprinted at The Chosen One again, and this time he started pressuring the Chosen One. Sparks flung from both swords. The Chosen One did the same as Lucas. He made a distance between them and then infused a green luminous light into his sword.
“There are many different forms of luminous lights, each a different color. If it is rarer, then the more power it has. Green is the strongest, and pink is one of the weakest, only normal luminous lights are weaker. How do you expect to win?”
“With sheer grit!” “If it is weak, why were you mad when Catherine stole it from you?”
“Because I will never let anybody besides me have anything close to my level of power, unless money is involved,” Lucas let out a small laugh. Of course he would talk about money. Lucas blocked another attack. He looked back. His friends were defending themselves, and they did not seem to have any fatal wounds. After blocking more attacks, he bought enough time to check on his condition. Parts of his clothes were charred, and he had many burn marks, probably from the explosions of the green luminous lights. There were less cut wounds, but they were definitely bigger. Lucas launched a counter attack. Both of them were at a standstill, Lucas was using his powers to try and get a hit on him, his opponent was in the same position. Slash! Both were sent flying. “oof!” Lucas winced. The Chosen One stood up quickly, meanwhile Lucas was slow to get on his feet. The Chosen One went over and kicked him before unleashing multiple strikes. All of them hit. Lucas felt more and more pain, pain that got worse as each slash hit. Lucas knew The Chosen One would fight dirty. Lucas was getting closer to the glass wall that stopped him from falling two thousand feet to the ground. Lucas had to fight back. He lifted up his sword, wounds were everywhere on his arm, and if he did not try to block the blows, it would only get worse. The Chosen One tried to slash him again, but this time, it did not hit. Lucas’s sword was gleaming.
He suddenly had an idea, “How about you have a taste of your own medicine!” He yelled. He pulled out a pink luminous light and raised it up. He did a few hops, getting more power, and threw it at The Chosen One. Boom!!! The pink luminous light exploded into flames.
“What happened?” Catherine said, confused. “It is a large blast that’s for sure. You got this Lucas!” Daniel called. Lucas looked over at him.
“Thanks!” He replied. A lot of the office was engulfed in flames. The Chosen One was caught in the middle of the detonation.
“Now…” The Chosen One coughed. “We are even,”
“Are you sure about that? You arrested my mother and killed my father,” Lucas reminded him. “You can never silence the past from impacting the present,” The sun was going down in the sky, and daylight was slowly ending. There was a loud crash! Lucas knew what had happened. The Protesters were getting into the tower! Lucas and The Chosen One now were in the same condition. Both of them were injured, but not done yet. Both of them had not used the full extent of their powers, but they were entering the final stage of the battle, and it seemed like they would. Lucas controlled his luminous lights with precision and power. They swirled around Lucas as he got up. He noticed his skin was glowing, just like the lights. I really am connected to them, The Chosen One responded by activating more of his powers. The luminous lights swirled around him as well. “Woah…” Daniel said with wonder as he took a quick look at the scene. He then punched another soldier. There were only fifteen soldiers remaining, but both Catherine and Daniel were tired, and they needed to end the enemies quickly. Lucas could not stop remembering the past, the fire, his dad, and everything that had led up to the fight. “There is more to luminous lights than you could ever dream about,” Lucas told him as the glowing orbs circled around him. The Chosen One was silent. His cold, evil eyes had no expression. The protesters watched below as the top floor of the Steel Tower glowed from the battle. Lucas’s mom and the other prisoner were some of those protesters. Chants rooting for Lucas formed in the streets. Lucas always knew he had the people on his side. The sun was slowly going down in the sky, and the city was being treated with an incredible sight. As Lucas was looking at the scene, The Chosen One was readying a strike. Lucas looked behind him just in time and dodged The Chosen One’s gleaming blade. The second attack Alex made, Lucas was not so lucky. Slice! The Chosen One followed by launching an even stronger attempt to make Lucas draw more blood, and it was deadly. For Lucas it felt like it was all in slow motion. The hit blinded him, and he could not see anything, but he could feel the pain. “Arghhh!!!” He cried. He looked at his body. Blood dripped through his clothes, and red stains were all over his body. His left arm, where the slash mainly hit, was crippled. He would have to do everything with his right. Lucas wondered what Braun would think if his left arm was unusable. Lucas snapped back to reality. He could not think clearly with his wound. He was down on the ground, vulnerable, almost dead. The Chosen One slowly walked toward him. Get up, get up! Lucas thought. “Stupid kid,” The Chosen One whispered. Lucas channeled all of his energy, trying to stay in the battle. Keep going, think about all the lights in the town. Using his thoughts, Lucas thought about using all of the luminous lights in the city. The building started shaking, lights around the shining city shook. “You are still nothing,” The Chosen One told him. The Chosen One brought his sword down on Lucas, but it did not hit him. Clang!
All the lights of the city suddenly went out. “Huh?” The Chosen One said, confused. It was pitch black, until Lucas’s sword let out a brilliant flash of luminescence! The light lit up the Steel Tower, and as Lucas realized what was going on, he could not believe what had happened. His sword protected him, the sound was the swords colliding, and the radiant aura that surrounded the sword came from all of the lights of the city. Lucas slowly got up. “No I’m not,” The Chosen One took a few steps back, shocked. Lucas sprinted at him, his sword shined even brighter. The Chosen One tried to block Lucas’s slash, but to no avail. It pierced him but The Chosen One stood his ground. The sun was mostly gone, and the first colors of night appeared. The protesters encouraged him below. The fire created by the explosions was getting bigger, and Lucas and The Chosen One were trapped in a ring of fire. Lucas followed by delivering another slash this time knocking him back. Lucas was tired, he was using all of his energy in this final fight, but he knew he was using the power of the entire city, and that was the most powerful thing of all. Being united. The Chosen One was only a few feet from the flames. He countered by throwing a green luminous light at Lucas. The burst bounced off of Lucas’s sword and went into the fire. Boom! It was getting bigger, and it was now engulfing most of the office. He felt more formidable than he had ever been before. Lucas charged up his final attack. He thought about his journey, the past of the city and his family, his powers, and what he had been fighting for. “What you don’t understand about luminous lights, is that imagination is the key to unlocking their full power!” Lucas made a slash that had all of his power in it. Lucas saw nothing like he had ever seen before. He saw a million colors as he made it. It looked like a sunrise. The sword sliced The Chosen One. He was sent flying into the fire, he looked around. “Why!!!” He smashed into the glass, which shattered, making him fall to his death. The sunset ended in a beautiful flash of colors just as Lucas made it. Lucas couldn't believe it, he had done it. He fell to the ground from exhaustion. Lucas looked at his sword. The light from it was slowly fading. Lucas saw the city. All of the lights had returned. His friends had defeated the soldiers, and stood amazed at Lucas and the amazing sunrise behind him. Lucas was still in the ring of fire, but he knew he did not have the energy to get out of it. He felt the heat. Lucas laughed. He knew his father would be proud. They had done it. The Chosen One was gone, and the city was free from his lies and crimes. His dad had had the same goal as him, now Lucas had fulfilled it. “Hope is a really interesting thing,” He told himself. “It never dies!” Lucas closed his eyes, and the world went black.
