The Things You Will Become- Chapter 11

Chapter 11

2 weeks later…

Lucas woke up in a hospital surrounded by his friends. Jane, Braun, Daniel and Catherine. Margaret was also there too. They were all smiling. Each of them hugged him one by one. Lucas noticed a cast on his left arm. All of his other wounds had healed. He moved it. A small burst of pain shot through his body.

“That is where The Chosen One hit you,” Braun said.

“You were asleep for two weeks!” Daniel explained. “After you killed The Chosen One and we defeated the soldiers, we pulled you out of the circle of flames and got you to the hospital. The news of his death has spread like wildfire, and there is going to be an election in a couple of weeks,”

“I am running for president of the city!” Braun exclaimed with pride.

Lucas was glad the city had been freed from its corruption and order had been established, and everyone celebrated the death of the fascist leader who had lied to the city for ten years and was going to kill everyone in it.

Catherine approached Lucas. “By the way, you left your book. I thought you would like to finish writing your adventures,”

Lucas laughed. “I think I can write with one arm. I will finish it. If you want to know what I am going to do for it, I’m trying to get it published!” Catherine smiled.

“I am sure you will,” She looked happy to be with her mom.

Eventually, Lucas returned home with his mom. The arm he thought would never heal miraculously got back to its normal condition and he was soon back to full health. Braun won the election by a landslide, and Catherine’s mom bought a house right next to Lucas’s and Daniel’s. When Braun became president, he helped out Catherine’s family with all the financial help they needed. He fired every single person in the government that knew and supported The Chosen One’s decisions. Many of them were people who had been part of The Chosen One’s plans. Now, both sides of the city had equal rights, and every situation in the city the government helped out with. Nora became the main scientist of the city, and Daniel found himself teaching people young and old about the possibilities of Luminous lights, and Lucas helped him create different items to show with his class. Catherine and Daniel often came over. Daniel kept innovating the uses of luminous lights. He soon was studying the possibilities of them and teaching them to Lucas and Catherine. One morning Lucas had just woken up. He got in his favorite outfit. Green pants and a red jacket. He saw his mom making his favorite meal: bacon and eggs. The sun rose over the shining city in a great scene, like every other sunrise that had happened in the city. “Wow, amazing sunrise!”

“Amazing indeed,” His mother replied. The crescent moon river was clear as can be. Lucas opened his book. He was about to finish it. After quickly finishing his breakfast, Lucas went upstairs to his room, where while the sunrise ended, he wrote the final words of his story. Afterward, he thought about what had happened in the past six months. It had been the length of his journey, but it felt more like a decade for Lucas. He knew he was lucky to have such loyal friends, and how he defied the evil of the city with determination and grit. Lucas thought about what he had said after the battle. Hope was an interesting thing. It was a part of everything. If I defeated The Chosen One, what could others do? The world was big. Millions of new stories were starting every day. He knew that someone could do something just like he did and stand up to fascism. The sunrise ended. It felt different to Lucas. It felt like a new beginning.
